Robert Bozeman Jr. is a survivor of gun violence and a victim of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. His single minded ways nearly caused him to lose his life many times before; however he refused to learn from the mistakes of others. Thinking he could get a different outcome if he just played his cards right, Robert continued to spend time in places with people he was warned were not looking out for his best interest.
Ultimately, this mentality changed his life forever physically, emotionally, and spiritually. On an evening in February of 25, 2005, after being warned that very night not to do so, Robert went out on the town with his “friends.” The outing took an almost fatal turn when an altercation broke out between one of the friends and an offended patron at the club. Shots rang out and in the end, Robert was shot in the head and left to die by his two friends.
As a result of the injury, Robert spent five days in a coma fighting for his life. His recovery included him having to learn how to walk, talk, and comprehend all over again. Understanding how fragile life is and having been humbled by his experience, Robert has committed his new life to educating people of all ages. His message is about senselessness of gun violence as well as how choices and decisions affect their lives. His desire is to help people learn from his mistakes. Labeled “The Anti-Violence Ambassador” by the Black Affairs Advisory Board, Robert “The Messenger” Bozeman Jr. is a voice for today to speak a word of peace and inspiration to our future.
