Richard is a mathematician, an entrepreneur, an early-stage investor, and a community organizer. As an MIT Math PhD, he’s working closely with the Massachusetts General Hospital in using AI/ML to optimize healthcare operations. His work has been featured in high-impact journals including Nature. At the same time, he is an Associate at Pillar VC, a Boston based preseed-to-seed fund co-founded by the top 22 CEOs of Boston (Wayfair, Gingo Bioworks, Rapid7, PillPack/Amazon Pharmacy, etc.). At Pillar Richard focuses on AI, healthcare, and sustainability investments. He’s also recently joined the business development team of Dana-Farber, a world-class cancer research center under Harvard Medical School, where he focuses on finding strategic alliances between Dana-Farber inventions and stakeholders along the healthcare value chain.
At heart, Richard is a community organizer who cares deeply about the success and well-being of students and entrepreneurs. Together with six MIT grad students and postdocs, Richard co-founded FAIL!, a nonprofit aimed to de-stigmatize failures and instill psychological safety in hypercompetitive workplaces by inviting well-established individuals to openly share their stories of failures and moments of vulnerabilities.
