🎓_Bachelor of Applied Science Cum Laude Criminal Justice

I have first hand knowledge and personal experience in mental health as both a Mother of a Son living with Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorders and as a Mental Health Professional. I volunteered and served with NAMI (National Alliance Mental Illness) MN in the following capacity as a Facilatator of Parent and Family Support Groups, Board of Directors, African American Advisory Board, and their Criminal Justice Advisory Committee. I was instrumental in the C.I.T. (Crisis Intervention Training) of police officers, correctional officers, and other mental health professionals in how to properly respond to a mental health crisis using de-escalation techniques to safely transport a person in crisis to the hospital. I have successfully advocated for other persons with mental illness during court proceedings which resulted in the dismissal of charges and no incarceration. I worked diligently and most passionately as a Volunteer Guardian Ad Litem advocating for services and supports for both children and parents living with a mental illness for the reunification of the families. I have worked in the Legal/Criminal Justice field for a total of 24 years.

When I am not advocating or empowering others with a voice, I enjoy reading 📖, writing ✍️ creatively, listening to 🎶 and spending time with family and friends.
