Rachel Z Hakim is a rockjazz pianist, keyboardist and electronic musician. She is considered one of the most innovative and versatile musical forces of her generation. She recorded 10 solo albums as Rachel Z, one CD with The Trio of OZ with Omar Hakim! She currently has a new band Ozmosys featuring Omar Hakim on drums, Kurt Rosenwinkel on Guitar,& Linley Marthe on bass which is currently recording and touring for their Eyes to the Future Project! They released their first EP in Nov 2019.
Additionally, Rachel Z has recorded, and toured with Steps Ahead, Wayne Shorter(Highlife CD) for which they won a Grammy. She has written and won a Grammy for Tokyo Blue with Najee. She has toured, recorded, and been features on the Peter Gabriel “Growing Up Live Tour.” Also recorded and toured with Stanley Clarke and Lenny White, Al DiMeola, Larry Coryell, Neal Schon’s Vortex, Pino Daniele, Savage Garden, Wayne Escofferey, Terri Lyne Carrington, Cindy Blackman and many more.
She is a professor at The New School University College of Performing Arts since 2002. She is earning a Masters degree from SUNY Purchase in Studio Composition and Electronic music.
She is a Visiting Professor at Berklee ELectronic Music and Production.
She has recently become adjunct faculty at NJCU for Fall 2020!
