This is known as the Ramanujan Summation. The answer obtained; which could be considered as a kind of analytical continuation, is used in the analytical explanation of Casimir Effect.

Ramanujan's work has influenced physics with an emphasis on applications to String Theory, Black Hole States and Symmetry (Monstrous Moonshine).

Note that the summation is based on the Riemann Zeta Function ζ(s) for s=-1, and in the series theory the summation 1+2+3+... is divergent and tends towards infinity.
