Akbar Cook is the Principal of West Side High School in Newark, NJ. His school created a free laundromat for students that were being bullied because of their cleanliness. He also started the “Lights On Program” to keep kids safe during the hours at night where crime is most prevalent. Ellen DeGeneres gave the school 100k which they’re using to build an Urban Farm. Also, Oprah Winfrey visited the school to see the Lights On Program and donated 500k to keep kids safe.
