Bio

Phillipa Vincent-Connolly is an historian, author, educator, historical consultant and a disabled broadcaster with cerebral palsy, who qualified with a degree in History and Humanities with the Open University in 2011. She went on to teach History and Textiles as a secondary school teacher in 2014 across Dorset and Hampshire. Among her many interests, she has a deep and abiding love for all things historical – archives, architecture, artefacts, corsetry and fashion. Phillipa has previously completed postgraduate study in History with the Open University, focusing on local history 1750-1950 as a research project, which covers issues in the practice of local history within the themes of poverty, crime and policing, the family, urban history, religion, and industrialisation. She is now a PhD candidate in Tudor Disability History, at Manchester Metropolitan University.

As an academic she has written extensively on disability throughout history and is a recognised expert on the Tudor and Victorian periods, working as a consultant on historical dramas and documentaries. She is interested in both physical and learning disability encompassing royal and ordinary people’s lives – the subjects of her latest publications. She has written fiction, historical fiction, and factual books – with books available to purchase and has other commissioned works in progress. Her latest book, Disability and The Tudors is published in 2021. Phillipa is a public speaker and regularly lectures online.

In her spare time, Phillipa is a keen activist with an interest in disability equality and democratic socialism. She is part of the re-enactment group run by Gina Clark from Tudor Dreams Historical Costumier and she lives in Poole, Dorset, with her two children.

Please contact her agent Neil Hennessy-Vass at www.xavicusmedia.com or [email protected] for enquiries regarding talks and events.
