Joel Widmaier > 2019 Production Director of Radio Métropole, composer of more than 70 jingles, arranger, director, producer, recipient of an award from RFI (Radio France international), for over 20 years, Joel Widmaier has Sound as a passion. He studied radio communication and sound engineering in Miami and New York. Self-taught drummer since 13, along with his brothers, he launches garage bands such as the Mini Brothers followed by the Widmaier Brothers in the ‘70. He discovers the guitar and starts composing music in the ’80. A sound blending rock, funk and konpa with a hint of jazz that reaches the height of its expression in 1981, when the Zèklè band is formally established. After 4 successful albums and 10 #1 hits, Zèklè is until today, a band that participated in a profound way in the evolution of Haitian music by offering its “Up to Date sound” with its Caribbean sauce. In addition, Joel has had the opportunity to work with artists such as Toto Bissainthe, Bernard Lavilliers, Wyclef Jean, Jocelyne Beroard, Tifane, Azor, Carole Demesmin, Michel Martelly, Fabrice Rouzier, BelO, Boulo Valcourt, Strings (Jacky Ambroise) or Reginald Policard... Today, Joel Widmaier, is also the President of the Haiti Jazz Foundation, which mission is to be a locomotive contributing to the development, evolution and promotion of jazz Kreyol in Haiti and abroad. Through this Foundation, alongside his wife Milena Sandler Widmaier, they produce the Port-au-Prince International Jazz Festival. Joel is also a founding member of the Association Ayiti Mizik, which works to strengthen and professionalize the music industry in Haiti.
