Niku Kashef is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice includes teaching, studio (photography, video, printmaking) and post-studio work, commercial photography, art direction, relational practices, site-specific installation, writing, curation, social engagement, public-speaking, crowdsourced participatory projects and advocacy.
She is engaged in finding and building community through the shared experiences of: parenting, displacement and diasporas, loss, environment, sacred activism, and the ephemeral.
In Niku's relational practice, she facilitates a weekly series of open community meditations through social media engagement delivered livestream via zoom as well as recorded offerings on Soundcloud. Meditation techniques are curated from vipassana/mindfulness; vedanta/tantra; 5 element theory; creative visualization and pranayama/breath. Niku serves as the Vice President of Diversity & Inclusion on the Board of Directors for the College Art Association (CAA), she is chair-emeritus to the CAA’s Services for Artist’s Committee, President-emeritus of the Southern California Women's Caucus for Art and past Board member of the National Women’s Caucus for Art. Niku has an MFA in Visual Communication,
teaches as a Lecturer of Art at California State University, Northridge and as Adjunct in the School of Media, Culture & Design at Woodbury University. She holds a RYT200, Tantric Meditation Teacher, and is a 2022 Cohort with the TMF program at the UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center.
