Narinder Sagoo is the Art Director and Senior Partner at Foster + Partners. He completed his degree in Architecture and joined the practice in 1996, returning to complete his masters in architecture at The Bartlett School of Architecture in 1998. During his time at the Bartlett, he studied with CJ Lim and Christine Hawley in Unit 21.
Narinder’s heads the practice’s Design Communications team, using visual arts to assist the design process at every stage. He is most well-known for his perspective drawings and his team’s unique ability to grasp and visualise architectural visions from the simple sketch to photoreal artwork. Working alongside Lord Foster and other senior partners, Narinder and his team have been involved in all of the practice’s projects over a period of two decades.
Responsible for all artistic representations of projects, from sketch and drawing, digital painting through to photorealistic representation, Narinder’s team of artists continue to push boundaries, translating not just the built reality but the essence of a building, whilst exploring sensory relationships with the built and natural environment. For him, the act of listening to a client is the beginning of a collaborative process that involves sketching and drawing as an integral part, working as part of a larger team together with the client as a partner. Beginning with conceptual art, which provides an initial feel of the project, to photorealistic images that take us forward in time to the point of reality, his team of artists create a large variety of artwork throughout the design process.
Narinder continues to teach at the Bartlett School of Architecture, Yale University and the Cambridge School of Architecture, and is a Patron of The Big Draw, an arts education charity that promotes visual literacy and the universal language of drawing as a tool for learning, expression and invention.
