they/her
One of my poems:
I used to think of love poems
like paperweight: beautiful
but what's the value of aesthetics
in the grander scheme of things
a wide-eyed student watches war
folds it into a paper plane
it lands in the hangars of her psyche
uses its missiles to bomb
her self-esteem down
I am on a flight to Indonesia
to meet myself, a migrant
who knew window seats to the world
could give you
a view of your pre-conceived bigotries
become minute by the minute
Who knew geographical borders were
also lines drawn over our bodies
to be traded and valued
based on the up down movement
of our hems
but the price of age is constant
that is to say, lower
than the age of consent
Dreams are free however, and
as a child I wanted to be a doctor
a lawyer, an engineer
more than making pocket change, I wanted to make a difference
as an adult I'm writing love poems
for the world
for myself especially
as an adult I'm writing angry love poems
against this system that made me believe
love poems are unnecessary
made me believe to love is to be
weak, meek, and complacent
to pay for fairness equally be it in love or war
Fuck that
There are no equal sides when the plane
is tilted
when reservoirs are reserved for the dragon rich
leave us with sewer water that does not trickle down, it floods a basement
and we're building a boat but it keeps being teared down
and I'm tired, I'm burning on fumes from the fuel you sold me,
and there are no more wood to build hope a home when there are no more trees.
So this here is a fucking love poem
to my women
to my trans goddesses
to my children
to this soil's true royalty, to my orang asli
to my underpaid workers
to my migrants
to my refugees
to my minorities
I see you.
