دو توصیه ابوعلی سینا(شیخ الرئیس) به اهالی گفت‌وگو:
«مَنْ تَعَوَّدَ أنْ یصَدِّقَ بِغَیرِ دَلِیلٍ فَقَدِ انْخَلَعَ مِنْ کِسَوَةِ الإنْسانِیة»
«کسی که هر حرفی را بدون برهان و دلیل بپذیرد، از لباس آدمی بیرون رفته است»
«کُلُّ ما قَرَعَ سَمْعَکَ مِنَ الْعَجَائِبِ فَذَرْهُ فِی بُقْعَةِ الإمْکانِ مَا لَمْ یذُدْک عَنْهُ قَائِمُ البُرْهانِ»
«اگر کلام عجیبی شنیدی، مادامیکه دلیلی بر امکان یا عدم امکانش نداری، نه آن را ردّ کن و نه قبول، تا وقتی که دلیل و برهانی بدست آوری»

"He who accepts every word without argument is out of the clothes of man."
"If you hear a strange word, as long as you have no proof of its possibility or impossibility, neither reject it nor accept it, until you have a proof."
