Born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, Vivian Shiao began studying the piano with great passion at the age of three and traveling internationally as a piano under the commission of Steinway & Sons. From the age of 13, Vivian started to teach private piano lessons to young children. She earned her B.A. in Piano Performance at the University of Kansas, which she attended with a full scholarship. She then continued her musical pursuits at the Musician's Institute, alsoreceived her M.A. in Music Education from USC with several major scholarships. She also is a visiting scholar at Stanford University.
Ms. Shiao has over twenty years of teaching experience from beginner to advanced piano education. She has been successfully coaching students into many major universities and music conservatories. Ms. Shiao also travels internationally teaching Masterclasses and educational workshops. Being a concert pianist and educator herself since an early age, Ms. Shiao understands the importance of the true enjoyment for piano education. Helping and consulting for students and their parents are her greatest passions in her musical career.
Vivian served as the voice division chair and a board of director of the MACOC. She is also an active member of MTNA, CAPMT, and ABRSM, She has also humbly accepted the position of the CAPMT Pasadena Chapter Chair of Piano and Vocal Ensemble Auditions, and was honored as a 2015-2016 Inductee to the NAPW Woman of the Year Circle. In 2018, she was promoted as a Steinway Educational Partner. Ms. Shiao was awarded as honorary music educator of Steinway and Son in 2019, and has been selected as the recipient of the Steinway Top Teacher Award in 2022.
