Recognizing the impact of sharing his story and struggles had on his young audiences, coupled with the strong desire to give back, Wave founded a nonprofit organization I Am That Kid Foundation, as a platform by which dance classes, seminars, and other community events could transform the lives of the next generation of hip-hop. Wave, in partnership with current b-boy dancers and flanked by his peers, is committed to providing youth of all ages with the opportunity to learn dance, build their self-esteem and channel their energies in a positive way while simultaneously getting healthy (fighting obesity) through movement, dance movement. Utilizing proceeds from the sales of the documentary: “Wave, A True Story in Hip-Hop” via Amazon.com, school-based contracts (school-year programs), donations and other sponsorships: Wave is able to offer all at little to no cost to youth and their families.
Wave’s contribution to the hip-hop culture has been acknowledged by various higher learning institutions, including: a viewing and Q & A of the documentary and showcase performance at Cornell University: Viewing, interactive discussion and dance showcase at the University of Maryland. The documentary has been officially inducted into the libraries of the Universities of Washington, Tulane and Brown. Historical items and memorabilia from Beat Street have been added to Cornell University’s Hip-Hop Archives, which has one of the most comprehensive collections in the world. Wave has been signed by Third World and H2o Newsreel sites to distribute his documentary, sustain the conversation and offer perspective on the culture of hip-hop. Suffice it to say, hip-hop has proven to improve the quality of life, enhance personal development, and provide educational opportunities for diverse and other at-risk community members.
Wave’s innovative dance style and ability to stand the test of time have cemented him as a living legend of dance. Today, while he works "professionally" as director for major service corporations, Wave continues to keep his hand on the pulse of the hip hop culture; working in partnership to produce documentaries highlighting the lives and talents of other cultural icons via Reel Sung Production.
