Cairo-born architect whose key focus lies on designing simple and functional buildings that also emphasize context and aesthetics. Abouzaid is the Founder and Design Principal of Verform Design studio based in Dubai for architecture, urbanism, design, and research.
Abouzaid has been named one of the top 50 most influential architects in the Middle East for the last five years. He’s won the Young Architect of the Year twice in 2014 & 2016, and was nominated for Architect of the Year in 2018. That same year he was appointed curator for the Egyptian National Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. He’s also won first place in the Smart Cities category at The World Architecture Festival for his X-Space project in 2019, and in the Ethics and Values category for his Sheltainer Design, which landed him the Middle East Architect’s Concept of the Year Award as well. Additionally, Abouzaid was nomination for the Mohamed Makiya prize (known as the Middle Eastern Architectural Personality of the Year Award).
In his practice, Abouzaid strives to create designs that both simplify and enhance the interaction of people and their built environment. He believes that architecture exists as a product of art and science, to create buildings, spaces, and interiors that bring people together. His approach relies on using imagination to form, give scale, order, and rhythm to all aspects of a space. His expertise encompasses various market sectors such as master planning, residential, commercial, cultural, hospitality and mixed-use spaces. Abouzaid has also led several projects in international firms located in Dubai , acquiring a vast range of experience in both specialist design and technological innovations across the sector. He embraces challenges and individual complexities in each and every project, always holding high standard and utilizing cutting-edge technology.
