She / Her
In my work, I strive to be the intersectional eye lacking in the grand narrative, telling history, fantasy, horror, from every angle, and from characters who aren’t often heroes. Who aren’t pretty or likable or entirely human. My wizards are elderly maids coming home from jobs on the bus, magic brooms in hand. My goddesses are single mothers juggling two jobs, and my gods are ex-convicts and reformed addicts. My princesses are gender-nonconforming, and my princes love boys. In our everyday world we see fear, we see chaos, we see despair and dismay. Rarely do we see possibility. Inspired by the possibility I find in authors like Octavia Butler and Tomi Adeyemi, I use fantasy to create dialogues between cultures and reimagine history and society. My goal is to inspire the next generation of children to not just find their reflection in someone’s world, but to create their own universe. In short, to be in control of their story.
