I believe Confucius when he said that we all have two lives, and the second begins when we discover that we have only one. From the time I was young, I pushed a lot of limits. I skied incredibly hard and well, mountain biked in the summers, and grew up in a healthy family. When I was training to become a Marine artilleryman, I pushed myself a bit too far and came down with mono and pneumonia. There is a good week that I don’t really remember from then, but it changed a lot of the risks that I took. As I toured the world during my time in the Marine Corps, I had the chance to take in some incredible sights and though I always thought of my family at home, I realized that there was so much that I would never know. I stayed close with my family and when my mom passed on the night of my 35th birthday, I realized she had held on to bring my family together one more time. It wasn’t long after that when I discovered how unhealthy I had become. My sleep, mood, digestion, and anxiety were all at a breaking point as my work performance tumbled. My marriage filled with poor communication, arguments, and I was not the man my parents had raised me to be. It wasn’t more than a few months before a friend took notice and offered to help me with my health. He had seen my struggles and I was willing to take any hand up at that point. Never in a thousand years would I have thought that would spark a journey that allowed me to help others improve their health in such a meaningful way. I built a business that I ran late at night while I closed out my last years in uniform. I studied gut health - the science of how our digestive tract influences all the various functions in our body. And finally, I made the time to study for a certificate in integrative nutrition so that I could help others professionally and on an international level. For fun, I enjoy my family, time on the ocean, and tinkering with projects and cars. I know that we will only get one shot at life and I want to enjoy every moment of it because tomorrow is never promised. I show others how to live in a healthy manner as well, and I’m always happy to make new friends and spark new relationships. -Mike
