Bio

Hello and welcome to my world of watercolour art. I am Melanie, artist, cat and dog mum, businesswoman and lover of colour.

I hadn’t planned on becoming an artist or starting a second business but 2020 changed a lot for me so with the spare time and inspiration I started painting. A few months later Studio Mel Sky was born.
​
I am located in the historic small town of Maldon (Dja Dja Wurrung Country) in regional Victoria. I am passionate about sustainability and the environment and I have that in mind when creating my products. Products and supplies are sourced locally where possible or only printed on demand to reduce waste and my carbon foot print. Packaging is made with recycled paper, and plastic free where-ever possible. I am very proud to have partnered with 15.trees to plant 1 tree for every 5 items sold to offset my carbon emissions.

I draw inspiration from the Australian beautiful flora and fauna in my surroundings. My work typically incorporates bright pops of colour and uses watercolour to achieve interesting texture and gradients.
​
My works often start with photography and I can be often found snapping photos then disappearing into the studio to sketch and paint. Those paintings are turned into prints, mugs, tea towels, phone covers, cards, notebooks and wrapping paper. I also sell a selection of original paintings.
