*EMPTINESS*

She asked, "When are you coming back?"

I answered,
After I stare, at the horizon, as the sun sets into the Sea, waiting for it to boil. Pick up sea shells and place them in my ear hoping they'll reveal the secrets of the ocean floor before my floating body visits. Walk Sandy paths on my barefoot listening to each step as I trace the end of the earth with my head bowed, my eyes relishing its texture. The cool sea breeze screaming, bragging, threatening to take my shirt and strip me of all I have left to warm my heart.

After I dip my feet in warm springs and I feel the sensations in my scalp. Watch as the hills push out water which sought refuge in them, me letting them fall on my hands hoping they'll share a tale of their journey and perhaps I will gain an understanding of what if feels to take a plunge from great heights.

After I walk the forests where leaves falling are no uncommon sight perhaps I may learn from them as they sway slowly to and fro in mid-air when severed from a branch as though they fear hurting the brown forest floor if they fell fast, learn from squirrels as they glide into trees perhaps I may not hurt the floor too when I try. Make friends with wild birds perhaps they would sing me a beautiful ode, the woodpecker perhaps carve me a marvel of a casket. Sit still and learn like the boa curled around an old tree branch awaiting a glorious take-off into the heavens in the claws of an eagle.

After I learn how barchans and dunes in the desert mask their scars of footsteps pretending to be whole and new. Learn from the cactus to leave a taste of ouch on the tongue of every intruder threatening to feed on my greenness.

After you answer my only question about how a house ever remains a home when your loved one is gone.
