Bio

Mauricio leads the Voluntary Pension Fund business (Saving, Investment and Wealth Management), at Proteccion S.A., Colombia's largest private pension fund and part of SURA Asset Management, Latin America’s largest non-banking asset manager and the leader in the pensions industry in the region.

Mauricio used to co-lead impact investing at Barclays. He was instrumental in the development of Barclays' behavioural finance framework for Impact Investing; the development of a methodology to integrate impact considerations across the investment process and the launch of the Multi-Impact Growth Fund of Funds and the Discretionary Sustainable Investment Strategy.

That work was recognised by the UK Cabinet Office’s Social Investment Awards 2016 for Market Building, by Investment Week’s Sustainable Investment Awards with a highly commended innovation award for research & methodology (Investment process integration framework, 2016), an innovation award for best fund & portfolio product (Multi-Impact Growth Fund, 2017); by Euromoney’s Private Banking Survey Awards 2018 with the best SRI/Impact Investing offering award ( Offshore and Africa), by Fortune Magazine’s 2018 with their inclusion in the Change the World List, and by Euromoney’s Private Banking Survey Awards 2019 with the best ESG/Impact Investing offering award (United Arab Emirates). Mauricio joined Barclays in 2010 to support the growth of the equity capital markets business at the Investment Bank. He was a key contributor in the structuring and execution of multiple high-profile EMEA transactions in the renewable energy and infrastructure sectors. Prior to this he was a relationship manager for structured products at J.P.Morgan.

Mauricio has been a boad member of various organisations including the development board at Ashden, (part of the Sainsbury Family Charitable Trust, that champions and promotes sustainable energy solutions in emerging economies), Children Change Colombia, and advisor to the Global Steering Group of Impact Investment and to the Humanitarian Investment Initiative at the World Economic Forum. Mauricio holds a BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering from EAFIT University and a Master in International Business Administration from Bournemouth University. Mauricio is also a Chartered Analyst of Alternative Investments (CAIA Charterholder), and an alumnus of the Impact Investing Programme from Said Business School at the University of Oxford, and the Future Trends programme at IE Business School.
