Bio

I am an independent researcher, educator, consultant, curator and director of the Research Collective for Decolonizing Fashion (rcdfashion.com). My practice grows out of an effort to underwrite a firmly ongoing critique concerning Eurocentricity in contemporary fashion discourses and prectices. The coloniality of contemporary fashion has been denying and erasing stories and memories materialized in other ways of fashioning the body, in their storytelling, in their dynamics and evolutions, and in their relation to their past. Its claim to modernity endorses a claim to superiority (over not-fashion), universality (as being the only ‘real’ fashion) and contemporaneity (as being unique to the here and now), enforcing discriminating categories of race, systems of classification and forms of temporal discrimination. The Research Collective is an experimental platform beyond institutional, disciplinary and geographical boundaries, that experiments with other ways of knowledge-production and transmission, through the communal, through listening to and acknowledging a diversity of voices across geography, age, race, gender and life experiences. Through collaborative projects with local partners equally committed to disrupting contemporary fashion discourse, the Collective initiates and contributes to a diversity of activities and projects.
