At 15, a judge👨🏼‍⚖️ sentenced me to life in prison. I self-educated myself📚, studied law ⚖️ in the cellblock, and helped to get my sentence reversed at the State Supreme Court. I was incarcerated from 15 to 32.

I was mentored behind those walls by some of the greatest minds on earth. These were men of towering character willing to give breath on a youngster as wild as I was. Now I am free 🕶. Dismantling systems of oppression is my mission. 🥷🏽 Let’s work....

⚖️ Smart Justice Campaign Coordinator for the state of Minnesota with the American Civil Liberties Union—the Smart Justice Campaign is the ACLUs effort to impact mass incarceration by working towards a 50% reduction.

💼 Founder and Lead Consultant of Darris Consulting Group—DCG consults with local and state government and helps them center community voice in their decision making and processes.

🗳 I have served as a campaign manager, field director and consultant in political campaigns that spanned from municipal judge, to city council to the City of Minneapolis. I have a strong boots on the ground philosophy with any campaign I participate in. My lens is to help as many dope Black candidates get elected as possible.

🌟I regularly lecture at law schools and universities on the criminal legal system

✨I am a motivational speaker on such topics as personal empowerment, leadership development and strategies to disrupt the status quo

💥I preside on multiple Boards of Directors including being recently appointed by the Governor to the State Board of Public Defense

🔥I regularly interface with media and have penned multiple essays on criminal legal systems disruption

🌪I am called upon by multiple stakeholders ranging from organizers to governors to police chiefs to help inform or strategize tactics regarding the criminal legal system.
