Hey there,

I’m Madeleine Wyke Silva.

By the time I turned 12 I was train hopping through Europe (I’m born in Switzerland and grew up in Sweden) every chance I got.

Working nights and weekends at my dad’s company to earn the money for the next train ticket for the next adventure.

I asked my mom recently: “How in the world did you allow me to travel by myself when I was so young?”

She huffed and responded: “It’s not like I had a chance to tell you otherwise. You would do what you wanted either way.”

So no wonder I became an entrepreneur. 😉

My mom has more to do with it than she lets on.

She's the rebel nurse that sent us around the neighborhood to get mumps, rubella, and measles rather than give us the shots. 💪

She's the one that would park the car all helter-skelter and tell the police in our little town that it was a French parking job, something he wouldn't understand. 😆

She's also an international smuggler. One year she brought a whole Swedish Christmas dinner in her hand luggage. Pickled herring and all! 🇸🇪

But still, she insists I couldn't have gotten my rebellious spirit from her, because she still has hers intact! 😂


My dad was the ultimate rebel entrepreneur.

Barely finished 6th grade.

Started out as an errand boy and worked his way up.

Moved to a foreign country without being able to speak the language for an opportunity.

Two years after returning back home, he made the leap into entrepreneurship.

Starting a business in a socialistic country, in a town with only 7 privately owned businesses.

I literally remember my teacher writing the names of the 7 businesses on the blackboard, me squirming in my seat while my classmates stared me down.

👉 Just being an entrepreneur was a rebellious act.

Not so different from how it feels being a small business owner in the world right now, right? 🎯
