LaShanna Bruce, founder and owner of Mommies & Curls, LLC, is a native of Little Rock, AR. She received her cosmetology license and opened her salon in 2013. She is a 3rd generation hairstylist and in addition to her cosmetology career, she was also director for a neighborhood after school program funded by a local community organization. There she developed friendships with White American moms that were fostering and adopting African and African American children. During the course of the friendships and candid conversations about Black hair care with curious and concerned moms, her company was developed. She started Mommies & Curls, LLC based on what she began to realize was a huge need in the adoption and foster community. She says, “I have genuine love and passion for what I do! I seek to encourage moms of transracial fostering and adoption… you can come to me and ask about anything…I’m your best friend!”
