People with Li-Fraumeni Syndrome (LFS) have a genetic predisposition to getting cancer. Women with LFS have over a 90% chance of getting cancer in their lifetimes and men have roughly a 70% chance.

LFS is linked to a mutation in the TP53 tumor suppressor gene. This gene is the one which causes cells to go into arrest when something is wrong instead of multiplying and causing a tumor. A typical person has two functioning copies of this part of their dna. A person with LFS typically inherits a bad copy from their mom or dad leaving their tumor defenses weakened.

Living LFS is a 501c3 non-profit that focuses on providing support for patients and families affected by Li-Fraumeni Syndrome.
