Shannon Gray-Chappell (Lady Gray) was born in Washington, DC, and reared and resides in Alexandria VA. She has been coined the storytelling poet by the first black poet laureate of Alexandria KaNikki Jakarta.
She discovered her passion for poetry in elementary school. She has written and performed poetry for private events and has worked with the Lakeisha Brown Foundation raising awareness for Domestic Violence.
Lady Gray has graced the stage at open mics for Phish Tea Café, Busboys and Poets, El Tamarindo, Mangos, St. Elmo's Café, Café Mawanaj, Martini’s Lounge, Rose's Café, and other local poetry venues in the DMV.
