Mikilani Young was born and raised in Hawaii and is of Kanaka Maoli, Filipino, Japanese, Chinese, Portuguese and Mayan descent. She is a Kumu hula (one who teaches the hula), the dance of expression, culture and the Sacredness of our Kanaka Maoli (Hawaiian people) ways and has practiced her cultural tradition for more than forty-nine years. Above all take lead from Ke Akua Na Akua Na Kupuna Na Aumakua Na Kahiko and our Sacred Mountain Mauna a Wakea.
Kumu Mikilani has been led by the Akua (Creator) to travel between nations and unify people all over the world, believing that prayer is the first course of action and when we place complete trust in the Creator and our ancestors they will show us the way to a beautiful life. She travels from nation to nation sharing about Mauna Kea, the sacred mountain of the Kanaka Maoli (the Hawaiian people) that is the tallest in the entire world from sea level to the top. Through the non-profit organization, United Pillars of Aloha and with permission, she shares about Mauna Kea and also what she has had the honor of learning from other Indigenous People's here on Turtle Island and Beyond. She shares about her traditions, life ways,struggles, victories and the importance of why it is so important for ALL people to come together and unify to save this planet for the next seven generations. Her calling and purpose has been to unify with all people and remind us all that practicing and knowing our cultural traditions is an essential part of how we live a good life in this world and part of a person’s journey and purpose in this life.
