My name is Steven, and my a daughter was born at 35 weeks due to severe preeclampsia. I quite frankly thought that parenthood would manifest itself gradually through more and more experiences with my wife and daughter, but it hit in an instant. She was in my arms and in my care. I was constantly reminded of the reality that I was privileged to tend to a precious soul that my wife was willing to give her life for. My daughter fought for her life for weeks in the NICU and today and each day I do all I can as a father to give her the most I can. At times it is hard and brings me close to my breaking point but it is all worth it. I never received the support I needed, but I don’t let that get to me because if I stay ahead of it I can be thankful for what I have. Though I wish more people would have asked how I was doing as a dad the focus was on my wife, as it should have been. Yet I deserved more attention from my own family and friends.
