As I reflect on my career to date, it makes me smile, remembering some of the life lessons that moulded me into the person I am. Some would say lucky, some privileged but the majority I hope would say ‘fair, ethical and supportive’.
As a young man in his teens, I couldn’t wait to get out of the humdrum of school and dive into the workplace as an aspiring Steve Jobs!! I was one of those gifted teenagers (we know the ones!) that knew everything, could do anything with the confidence and ego of a superhero.
I was predicted to fly through those ‘GCSE’s, ‘smash them out of the park’, destined to enjoy a gifted career in some corporate accelerated promotion scheme BUT all the WHEELS fell off when I was awarded the paltry accomplishment of Grade C Religious Education and a B in English Literature!!
How did this happen, how could I be in this position, the person who would have to drop back a year to retake the exams that by my combined ‘arrogance and confidence’ didn’t believe I needed to prepare for!!
Well, wind forward 30+ years and life isn’t too shabby, the ‘school of hard knocks’ taught me that no matter what’s thrown at you professionally or personally, we pick ourselves up, brush ourselves down and give it our all to achieve our goals and dreams.
The world of technology has been good to me, I’ve enjoyed a fruitful career in multiple leadership roles, and I’m proud to have eventually found the work-life balance that allows those dreams to be achieved.
As I sip my Frappuccino and consider how dramatically technology has changed our world, I’m thrilled to be part of this Tech SaaS journey - it’s changed everything. As a ‘Social connected’ community, we must all embrace it!
As a leader, husband and dad, I’m driven by three fundamental principles (1) Enjoy what I do (2) Make a difference and (3) Be Successful.
A reputation for Innovation, turn-round and getting the job done.
A great friend and coach once said to me, as I started my first management role “Being a leader doesn’t require a title; Having a title doesn’t make you one, words I’ve never forgotten during life’s rich journey.
It would be a pleasure to connect.
