An LA based singer/songwriter, Verginia Moon classically untrained contralto pipes transfer seamlessly into her heartfelt, rockabilly, blues style. Think Billie Holiday and Janis Joplin meets the playful charm of Amy Winehouse, Fiona Apple and Sia. She exudes love for music and has been singing from the ripe age of 3. She’s won multiple awards, performed in front of thousands and found herself traveling worldwide doing what she really loves. Touted as “a modern jazz masterpiece,” Verginia’s often described colorful, dynamic voice carries the clear tone and jazzy soul of a bygone era, while her hopeful lyrics and Americana-infused melodies reflect on the unpredictable life of the modern artist.
Verginia grew up between two worlds: One her family’s deep ties to Armenian heritage with rich, folk music; the other years she spent studying American music. Growing up in Glendale, CA where working immigrant communities co-exist with young political, passionate activists, she supported local bands and started playing gigs in Hollywood such as the Roxy, The Derby, The Mint, the Room Five, and was a house band at the Vampire Lounge in Beverly Hills with her band, Verginia Moon and the Stars.
In a world of over-sexualized leading ladies and a drug-infected pop culture, Verginia is a role model for various demographics promoting individuality and self-love.
Building a reputation for herself in the small but very friendly Toluca Lake speakeasy bar scene, the Red Door, she was soon acknowledged as one of LA’s most artistic; from eccentric wardrobe to constantly changing hairstyles and images, highly skillful musicians.
Naturally, production activity followed shortly. She was featured on a duet, “Let me in”, with the amazing musician Luis Oliart. Working out of small studios in her hometown LA as well as in Armenia, where Verginia’s song “Extasy” was awarded as number one hit in the Van Music Awards. Tracks like “I gotta know” by Too Fast soon landed in the crates of endless opportunities with bands and DJ’s worldwide. Her sound is raw, playful and is drenched in oceans of soul just the kind of vibe the dance floor’s of today are longing for.
