James Grear & Company has a history of Billboard charting hits, including albums “Don’t Give Up”, “What Will Your Life Say” and “Special Place”; and radio singles “Beautiful Black People”, “Because You Loved Me”, “Power”, “Special Place” and “Celebrate”. The industry veteran has appeared on soundtracks such as “The Prince of Egypt” with Boyz II Men, “The Fighting Temptations”, featuring Beyoncé and Angie Stone, and “The Emperor’s New Groove” with Sting. In addition, Grear & Company have sung on NBC’s “Today Show” with Mariah Carey.
Finding time to balance his career as an artist and CEO of a thriving business has been particularly a special challenge for the Minneapolis native. James was featured in Ebony Magazine as Father of the Year (June 2005) and he also won the same title from the Family Focus Adoption Agency. Being a single father to his son, eight boys he has officially adopted, along with four foster children in his care---all while traveling with his group and producing music---has been a labor of love.
James is the founder and CEO of Thrive Youth Service, Minneapolis MN, the Twin Cites largest black owned Home and Community Based Services Agency. Providing services to teens with Mental Health disabilities, currently having 5 locations and over 70 full time employees and growing.
James has recently signed to BlackSmoke Music with Mr. Kerry Douglas.
