Bio
First named pronounced “hi-meh”.
Mexican-American. Raised on the border, in El Paso, Texas. I’ve been a straddler of worlds ever since I can remember: nationalities and cultures, races and ethnicities, socioeconomic levels, and institutional sectors, to name a few. I’m driven by opportunities to build wide-scale social innovation - have pursued that interest through roles media, education, technology, and public service and at places like the White House, Participant Media, IDEO, and MTV.
Today, I head up a national nonprofit called Public Allies, a pioneer in identifying high potential young people from marginalized communities and helping them develop into high-impact civic leaders. Focused on shaping a “Next Wave” America.
My wife, Amanda, and I live in Los Angeles with our two teens (send help!) and our dog, Lila Bean.
