I am Isaac Liang, a Deaf illustrator. Being born Deaf, drawing is my first and visual language before I have learned English in school. Born to a Chinese-speaking family, drawing naturally came to me as a mode of communication when I doodled on my parents' cupboard. My parents and I didn't communicate well for the next two decades because of the communication and language barriers that exist to this day.
The more I drew, the more i express my feelings and frustrations through my drawings.
When i was growing up, studies took over my art and I struggled academically throughout my entire schooling life. In addition to this, I have not attended any art lessons outside school during my whole childhood life. Whenever I had art lessons in school, excitement took over me. I feel naturally connected to my art. I told myself when i grow up, I want to be an artist.
After I graduated from Nanyang Polytechnic with a diploma in Digital Media Design (Animation Specialisation), I was not sure of what art to do as my job. I saw art as my career determinedly no matter what. One day, I chanced on the illustration blog of the French - American Illustrator, Pascal Campion. His work are lively and inspiring. Thus, he inspired me to practice a craft in digital illustration. I kept practising daily.
I fulfilled my childhood dream when i became a self employed illustrator for a living.
Today, I am a successful illustrator. Art is indeed fulfilling and meaningful. I can't imagine what i would be without doing art for a single day. I am passionate about what I do.
