I had an epiphany that after 10 years in nonprofits I could call myself a philanthropist. I spent my career in community organizing and education. I spent hours working at lower-than-average nonprofit salaries and overtime working for charitable causes. I realized that being a philanthropist was also about how we spend our time—and what sacrifices we make.
