My journey to anesthesiology and my subsequent decision to pursue Regional Anesthesiology & Acute Pain Medicine has been indirect. I began my training as a Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Resident Physician, though I later realized this awesome specialty was not a good fit for me. My 3-year experience as a plastic surgery resident physician helped clarify what I desired in a medical specialty: the ability to instantly resolve problems and alleviate patient suffering, work with my hands, routinely apply my knowledge of anatomy and physiology, acutely manipulate physiology, and respond calmly and decisively in acute settings. I also sought a field that would allow me to pursue my passions and endeavors outside of medicine—namely mentoring the next generation of professionals, fixing broken systems, and challenging the status quo.
I thoroughly enjoy anesthesiology and feel it is the best professional decision I have ever made. I am specifically interested in academic regional anesthesiology with future goals of teaching resident physicians; pursuing clinical research; advocating for patient safety in various levels of healthcare (clinically, hospital setting, provision of health insurance, local/state/federal policy); and building a Regional Anesthesiology & Acute Pain Service--locally and internationally.
My unique experiences, work ethic, enthusiasm, and fellowship training will bring me one step closer to realizing my goal of providing the highest level of care to my patients, while developing, disseminating, and applying cutting-edge research to alleviate pain, promote health, and enhance the quality of my patient’s experience.
