Disciples of the Master cannot let the comforts, pleasures, and mundane indulgences of everyday life lull us into a sense of complacency. We tend to cling to the material world. Life’s busyness, pleasures, and concerns distract us from matters of spirituality and godliness: “The worry of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful” (Matthew 13:22). If a disciple cannot let go of materialism, he will be double-minded like Lot’s wife, and he may well perish with the materialistic culture in the day of judgment
