As Provost of the American University in Cairo (AUC), Dr. Ehab Abdel-Rahman, serves as the Chief Executive Officer in the absence of the President, is the Chief Academic Officer, and provides administrative leadership and oversight for all academic components of the University. Prior to his service as the Interim Provost, Dr. Abdel-Rahman served as the Vice Provost and Associate Provost for Research.
During the last three years that Dr. Abdel-Rahman served as Provost, he has twice led the re-accreditations of AUC by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE)
and the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education “NAQAAE”.
He also spearheaded the development of AUC’s Strategic Plan, Reimagining the Learning Spaces, Bring Your Own Device, Measuring and Enhancing the Quality of Education Initiatives. In 2020, he succeeded to reverse AUC’s QS World University Rankings trend and to move it up 25 places, ranking at 395th globally — placing AUC amongst the top 1.5% of universities worldwide.
Dr. Abdel-Rahman holds a doctoral degree in physics from the University of Utah, USA. Professor Abdel-Rahman joined AUC in 2006. He received tenure and promoted to associate professor rank in 2010. In 2010, Professor Abdel-Rahman was elected as the Chair of the Department of Physics, and in April 2011, he was appointed to serve as the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research and the Director of Yousef Jameel Science and Technology Research Center (YJSTRC). In 2013, Professor Abdel-Rahman was appointed the Vice Provost for Research and continued to be the Director of YJSTRC. In 2016, Professor Abdel-Rahman was appointed the Vice Provost of AUC. In June 2017, Ehab was appointed the Provost of AUC.
Prior to joining AUC, Ehab was an Assistant Professor of Physics at Helwan University, Egypt, as well as a Research Assistant Professor and a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Utah.
His area of specialty is thermoacoustics and photonics.
