Poet | From Venezuela to Harlem NYC | Master of ADHD | For poetry I fight | 🏳️🌈
BIO
I was born in Caracas, Venezuela, and moved to my grandparents’ farm in Dominican Republic at age two where I lived for the next six years. On my eighth birthday I came to live with my parents in Harlem, New York City.
Great teachers like Miss Lopez, Miss Hunt and Miss Bohrer watered my garden in the shade. A beautiful concrete place made me into Edo Tastic reincarnating in the Lower East Side after leaving my home and abuse behind me. Art comes from trauma: what is ignored, what survives unexpectedly in shadows as beautiful, what comforts like a mother, is uncomfortable and seen. Experienced.
I found solace in poetry, a friend, frenemy and foe. I have found loves that become motives for self reflection and stanzas. I have learned skills: survival, human psychology and emotion through poetry.
Poetry is survival for me.
For poetry I fight.
For poetry I wake in the morning to a downward facing dog.
For poetry I meditate.
For poetry, I believe in oneness.
For poetry, when my mother passed away, I vowed to live true to the soul, going unseen to fit in.
Poetry is my life.
