I spent 10 years in TV News before entering politics in 2010. I played a key role in I-502, making WA one of the first two states to legalize adult-use cannabis. I’ve also advocated for people persecuted in the state-federal conflict. My first case involved a cannabis company owned by a lobbyist + an attorney. As the grower stood trial, his partners testified in exchange for no prison. The other partner died from medical neglect 4 months into a 5-year term. This was my “Aha!” moment.💡

My proudest achievement is the multi-layered legal, political & media strategy I crafted for the Kettle Falls 5, resulting in acquittal at trial on all original charges. The case was later dismissed, but not before many trips to DC and changing federal law. As a result, the Rohrabacher-Farr Amendment became law in 2014. I also co-authored a bill to define “Cannabis Health and Beauty Aids” and remove these products from the WA CSA. 🙌

After moving home to MT, I ran for office, earning nearly 40% of votes as a first-time candidate in a conservative district against an incumbent. A highlight was introducing Bernie Sanders at a 2016 Presidential Campaign rally, becoming the first-ever MT candidate endorsed by Our Revolution! Check it out:
