Dr. Jacqueline Patricia James graduated the first black female engineering graduate from the United States Coast Guard Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. She also made her mark as a scholar athlete and two-time all-American.
Dr. James received the Master of Science in Architectural Engineering and the Doctor of Philosophy in Civil and Architectural Engineering from the University of Miami.
Dr. James received her first faculty appointment to join the faculty at the United States Coast Guard Academy.
Later, she was hired by the Civil Architectural Environmental Engineering department at the University of Miami.
In 2007, Dr. James founded IMARA Engineering Consulting, and currently practices in South Florida.
In that same year she co-founded Tarakon Records with International super star Kevin Lyttle. The record label along with its multi-room studios, and music distribution company Song Bwoy distribution are located in Miami Florida.
Among the many honors and awards Dr. James has received throughout her career, a few stand out. She has been honored as a Trailblazer by the Miami Commission on the Status of Women. She was chosen as one of the Women who have made outstanding contributions to the University of Miami community and was named one of Miami Dade County’s 25 most influentialand prominent Black women in business and leadership. Recently in October 2020, she was inducted into the Coast Guard
Academy’s hall of fame for Track and Field
