🔴 Who is Kırımlı (Crimean) Aziz Bey? ⁉️
Kırımlı Aziz Bey was born in 1840 in Istanbul and graduated from “Tıbbiye-i Şahane”, the first modern military medical school of the Ottoman Empire in 1865. Aziz Bey maintained his studies in civil medical school and taught various courses as well.

He was a prominent medical doctor and a public figure as the founder of the first Turkish teaching modern medical school, the author of the first Turkish medical book, and the translator of the first Turkish medical dictionary. Aziz Bey was among the founders of the predecessor of the Turkish Red Crescent, “Association to Help and Rescue the Ill and Wounded Soldiers”. (Turk KIZILAY)

Aziz Bey also played a leading role during the establishment of the first red crescent society, “Hilal-i Ahmer Cemiyeti” by initiating the change of the red cross into the red crescent and drawing the first red crescent emblem. Kırımlı Aziz Bey served the Red Crescent both as a delegate and as a president until his death in 1878 when he was 38.

Kırımlı Aziz Bey is still remembered as one of the leading persons who initiated humanitarian principles and activities in Turkey.
