A founding voice of The Moth podcast, I’ve been in podcasting since 2007 and public radio since 1995 back when KEXP was still KCMU. I’ve spent the last fifteen years performing and writing, and seeing the world while doing it, working everywhere from London, to Los Angeles, to Honduras, to Australia and Indonesia, and most places in between.
I first garnered recognition in New York clubs and as a writer at the humor website McSweeney’s.
In 2003, Random House published my first book, “Loser Goes First”, then my music business memoir entitled “Rock On: An Office Power Ballad” came out in 2008. My debut novel, American Spirit (2013), received a starred review from Publishers Weekly. I’ve been a guest lecturer at Yale, as well as a guest author at The Harvard Lampoon celebrating being part of The Best of McSweeney’s Humor. My stories have appeared in GQ Magazine, on the Peabody Award-winning Moth Radio Hour, Risk!, Backfence PDX, and more.
I’ve primarily moved into writing for film and television, selling pilots to HBO and F/X, and working on feature film rewriting assignments at Amblin and Paramount, and Amazon Studios. Most recently serving as Story Producer on the forthcoming NBC primetime television series “True Story with Ed Helms and Randall Park.”
