Dr. Dana Arreola was recently named Executive Director of Leadership Development for the Aldine Independent School District. Prior to serving in Aldine she served as a School Support Officer for the Houston Independent School District (HISD) and provided support to historically underserved underperforming schools. As a member of the executive leadership team Dr. Arreola worked with cross-functional teams to support the launch of innovations including House Bill 3-Reading Academies to improve literacy achievement and the district’s Achieve 180 initiative to improve academic performance in historically underserved underperforming schools, address possible equity inequalities and close achievement gaps.
Dr. Arreola’s years of service include classroom teacher, campus literacy coach, director of reading, secondary curriculum specialist, assistant principal, and principal.
During her time as principal at McGowen Elementary in HISD the campus accrued the highest percentage gains in science performance across the district. Moreover, its introduction and implementation of balanced literacy practices was identified by the superintendent as the exemplar that other schools should strive to emulate.
During her time as School Support Officer for the Achieve 180 Schools, fifteen campuses earned an accountability rating of Met Standard after being Improvement Required for 1-3 years.
Dr. Arreola is an active board member of the Texas Alliance of Black School Educators (TABSE), Chair of the TABSE Campus Based Leadership Commission and a member of the National Alliance (NABSE) and Houston Area Alliance (HAABSE).
Dr. Arreola holds a bachelor of science in criminal justice, a master’s of arts in counseling and a master’s in education administration from Prairie View A&M, as well as a doctorate in professional leadership from the University of Houston.
