“A means to an end”
I heard that phrase a lot growing up, a justification of doing something you don’t like.
A reassurance of impermanence, in pursuit of an end goal.
In theory, it’s a sound argument.
But in practice, the human mind is too malleable. A temporary hardship can quickly become chronic misery.
Luckily, there was another childhood phrase that I remember well..
“Start as you mean to continue”
if the data has not been changed, no new rows will appear.
