My name is Chris, and I am the author and content creator for Chatty Geek, Hidden Dragon - an independent podcast about mental and social health, and embracing all that makes us unique. I have been practicing a Korean Traditional Martial Art called Tang Soo Do since 1998. Currently, I hold a 4th Dan, and have represented Great Britain on two occasions in International Competition. I follow a Buddhist belief system, and have been practicing Chan Buddhist Meditation since 2004. I have taken refuge with the Western Chan Fellowship. My Dharma Name is “Always Fulfilling”
My Objectives
I have 5 main objectives:
1. Community: Bring as many people together from as many backgrounds as possible. The dream is to build a community that can support every individual.
2. Mental Health and Wellbeing: Raise awareness of the commonplaceness of mental health issues. I believe there is still too much stigma and embarrassment felt by people that may be suffering from a mental health problem or crisis.
3. Passion: Nobody should feel like they should be keeping their hobbies and interests to themselves. I want to promote the idea that it is okay to be passionate. If you have found your hidden dragon, be it Meditation, Martial Arts, Video Games, Comic Books, Dungeons & Dragons, Triathlon, Weight Training, Scuba Diving, Circus Training, Chess… We want to hear about it! Nothing is off the table!
4. Uniqueness: We are all meant to be different, and we need to embrace what makes us different. None of us have the definitive answer, but together, by sharing our different ideas, we can collectively become a stronger community.
5. Fun!: As the Joker would say, “Why so serious?”. Building a stronger, more supporting community is a daunting task. When we look to social media and we see the polarising effect it has on the world, it is evident how important it is to bring down this virtual wall between us. But we’re not going to be able to do this, and get people on board if we don’t also enjoy the process, and have a bit of fun at the same time.
