Accomplished writer with twenty years of experience as a critic, journalist, editor, lecturer, and educator. A major strength is writing about sophisticated artwork and significant developments in the art world with insights that appeal to veterans as well as an accessibility that welcomes the general reader. My purview also includes some current events reporting, such as a Playboy magazine article on a push to get the Equal Rights Amendment ratified.
Previously in-house at Artnet News and Art in America.
Upon a foundation of the study of art history at Vassar College and the Williams College Graduate Program, I’ve written critically about hundreds of artists. My storytelling skills are on display in first-person accounts of adventures in the art world, including an article about learning to scuba dive for an expedition with MacArthur “genius” Trevor Paglen.
I’ve covered major art-world developments, including a years-long crisis at legendary art school The Cooper Union; I’ve broken major news, such as that the Armory Show art fair was up for sale; I’ve written investigative articles such as one that revealed that after a decade of expansion of MFA programs, application and enrollment rates are dropping. My journalism is built upon my extensive contacts and interviews with artists, art dealers, auction house specialists, and other art world veterans and upstarts.
I’ve worked as an editor at Art in America, a century-old art magazine (print and online) and as a writer at artnet News, a top web publication focusing on the art world. I published countless stories, developing them from pitch to photo research and captioning, headline workshopping, and SEO optimization. I've traveled the world to report on art fairs and review museum exhibitions. I also starred in a series of videos pointing out some of the best artworks at major art fairs. My articles earn me appearances on radio news programs and podcasts internationally.
I’ve also served as a visiting critic at top art schools including RISD and Rutgers and an instructor in the Bronx Museum’s AIM program.
