Boris Willis is a designer of media and stage experiences, with a specific interest in games and
dance. His is a graduate of the Ohio State University with an MFA in dance, George Mason
University with a BFA in dance and the University of North Carolina, School of the Arts with a
Diploma in dance. He operates under the names Black Russian Games and Boris Willis Moves.
Willis is an Associate Professor of Computer Game Design at George Mason University, and
Chief Dance Technologist with Company E. His recent work includes The Owl, The Fish, The
Maiden and He, and Natasha: A Game Of Dance for Black Russian Games on Itch.io, Night
Vision choreographed for the By The People Festival and Dance Place, designing a Creative
Response to Radcliffe Bailey’s The Great Dismal Swamp at the Greater Reston Arts Center,
performing with Body Cartography and the protest/performance One Step Forward, Two Step
Back in front of the White House. He has performed with City Dance Ensemble, Edgeworks
Dance Theater, Theater of the First Amendment, Liz Lerman/Dance Exchange, Streb and
Company E. He has written papers and given talks on choreographic thinking and games at
(DIGRA) Digital Games Research Association, IndieCade, the Serious Games Conference the
East Coast Games Conference and the National Dance Education Conference. He created the
dance vlog, danceaday.com. He received a Local Dance Commission Project award from the
Kennedy Center and a Choreography Fellowship from the Virginia Commission for the Arts.
