Benjamin Holbert III is the Mayor of the Village of Woodmere and veteran television journalist. He graduated from Benedictine High School in Cleveland, Ohio in 1977 and received his Bachelor of Arts in communications from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio in 1984, and later his M.B.A. degree from University of Phoenix in 2012.

He is currently in his first term as Mayor of the community known as the “Gateway to the Chagrin Valley.” Woodmere is home to a diverse population of residents as well as 300 businesses, including upscale retailers, situated within the one square mile jurisdiction.

Mayor Holbert was selected to the prestigious Leadership Cleveland Civic program that empowers experienced, senior-level positional leaders with knowledge, skills and relationships to advance and deepen their community impact.

Servant leadership is important to him. In 2012, he was inducted into the Benedictine High School Hall of Distinction. He also received numerous honors and awards including Kent State University- Outstanding Alumni Award and Community Service Award, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity-Omega Man of the Year, Knights of Peter Claver-Image Award. September 24, 2018, Mayor Holbert was interviewed by The HistoryMakers the nation’s largest African American video oral history archive.

Holbert began his professional career in broadcast journalism and served twenty years as a featured reporter and news anchor at several media outlets in the Cleveland television market including WKYC TV-NBC; WUAB-TV-43; WOIO-CBS and WJMO-1490-AM.

He was the recipient of four Emmy Awards for journalistic reporting and the Akron (Ohio) Broadcasters Hall of Fame “Personality of the Year.” He also served as adjunct professor at Cleveland State University in 2016. He served as Cleveland Chapter Parliamentarian for National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ). Mayor Holbert is married to Joyce, a SAP Master Data analyst, and they have raised their children to adulthood.
