Bio

Hi, Laura here. I’m a Professional Biomimicry Educator and Researcher and you can see what I’m up to on insta @biomimicry_education . Follow me and keep up with educational biomimicry tips and successes.

I graduated from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands with a MSc degree in Architecture focussing on sustainable design and urban metabolism. I also graduated from the Arizona State University Biomimicry Master's program in the spring of 2020 and am almost finished with my PhD research at Delft, researching analogical reasoning in biomimicry design education. In my job as a professor with the Industrial Design Engineering program at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, I connect the dots from what I’ve learned from studies at ASU and Biomimicry 3.8 while integrating biomimicry design thinking into a variety of design semesters and minor programs.

In the minor 'Design with Nature' at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, I teach a combination of Biomimicry Thinking and Design Thinking to international and inter-disciplined student teams who use biomimicry to solve challenges related to the Global Goals.

In my earlier career as architect, I worked in the building industry, from project architect to consultant, striving to introduce ‘Green’ initiatives. I’m passionate about cultivating curiosity to help others find their sweet-spot through learning from what Nature offers to teach us. My lectures and workshops are aimed at educating and informing audiences about how to design better products, processes and systems by looking to nature for time-tested solutions.

As a learner-educator, I bring multidisciplinary professionals together with students to design biomimetic products hoping to prove how using analogies from nature not only help the Biomimicry Practitioner, but also any designer who is curious to learn from 3.8 billion years of genius research and design... from Life itself.
