Bio

Kristina Birk is a Ukrainian-born American writer, producer and performer. She is the middle child of a Soviet cobbler and a nurse. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Kristina’s family moved from Ukraine, and started traveling internationally, directly leading to her ability to speak five languages.

Kristina began her stage path at age five. Her whole childhood and teenage years were centered around performing in various fashion, theater and dance performances across Europe. According to Kristina's family, from the day she learned to read (age four), she was never seen without a book or notebook where she was writing her own stories.

Enrolling at the Academy of National Economy to study Linguistics and Project Management at age sixteen helped Kristina fully commit to her growing interest towards writing. She was especially affected, inspired and frustrated by the USSR-related stories written by Nabokov, Zamyatin, Bulgakov, and told to her by her Eastern European grandparents that motivated her to write “How I Left OB-LOM,” an anti-Soviet dystopia.

After Kristina completed her bachelor's degree in 2009 and received her Master’s in 2010 she dedicated the next few years of her life to studying Theater and Playwriting at the Moscow Art Theatre Stanislavsky intensive first, then—at Meisner's Neighborhood Playhouse in NYC.

Since Kristina's arrival to NYC in 2011, she has been consistently involved in filmmaking, writing and performing. She joined Orphans Productions LLC—a NY and LA based group of creatives producing their original content for film and theatre. Joining The Orphans led to her involvement with eight original theatre and film projects produced by the group.

Since Kristina relocated to Los Angeles in 2016, she additionally has written and produced two award-winning short films—"Zenith" (4 wins) directed by Christopher Yager and "Black, White, Read" (1 win) created in collaboration with the Westward Orphans Productions, directed by Justin Morck, and the Art Web series - “Dig It Or The Desperate Search To Connect With Worms” directed by Alan De La Rosa. Kristina recently directed the first episode of an art documentary series “Dream Boat.”

Kristina is currently working on her next post apocalyptic fantasy film "My Opia," the next episodes of the web series "DIG IT (or the desperate Search to Connect With Worms)" and a dystopian pod play in collaboration with Christopher Yager and Westward Orphans Productions.
